I’m a huge believer in finding new & fun creative challenges. Monotony is one of my greatest enemies!
Since my newest survival job doesn’t allow me to commit to the rehearsal schedule of a fully produced play, I decided to take this opportunity to explore another type of performing… one that has always interested me but could never fit into my schedule… Improv.
A few months ago, I started taking a level 1 improv class at Magnet Theater in Chelsea… a neighborhood of Manhattan NYC. Our first class just had its final performance last Friday (11/8). I’m currently in the process of deciding which class to take next.
Important note… I did have a few improv classes years ago while attending acting conservatory, so it’s not completely new to me. However, this is the first time I’ve taken a course at a school that offers a comprehensive improv curriculum.
There are 2 things that specifically attracted me to Magnet Theater:
- It’s an actual improv school (see above)
- There’s an emphasis on Long Form Improv
I figured at the very least it would make me a better actor… and be a LOT of fun in the process!
I’m sure I’ll be posting more as I continue down this exciting new adventure.
