Stamford to NYC Train Commute (Part 2)

Blue Empire State Building at Night

This is a continuation of yesterday’s blog post: Stamford to NYC Train Commute (Part 1)

I’m often asked

“Why don’t you move into NYC? Since you’re an actor it seems like a perfect fit for you!”

The simple answer… it’s expensive… really expensive.

To put it in perspective, I would easily pay twice as much rent (for a smaller apartment) in Manhattan.

Even living in the other boroughs (Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Staten Island) the cost of living is significantly higher than Stamford. And, as I previously mentioned my travel time into Manhattan would be the same if not longer.

My survival job simply doesn’t pay enough to justify the extra expense.

I know many other creative types in my situation have roommates. While that may have been an option when I was in my 20s, it’s not something I’m prepared to do at this point. For most of my adult life I was either married or living alone. At 49 I don’t really see myself having traditional roommates anytime soon.

So… for now my train commute continues. Maybe someday things will change financially…

Maybe someday I’ll move into NYC…
Maybe someday…

But for now, I feel blessed to live close to New York City & experience it’s creative vibe…

Even if it’s part time!
